We Arrived in Frankfurt

Even with the lie-flat beds in Business class on Lufthansa, we still weren’t able to get more than an hour’s shuteye.

We arrived in Frankfurt at 7 am with a long haul to border patrol and baggage. At times like this, I wish we had asked for wheelchairs.

We took our time and made it out of the airport. It was easy to find a taxi.

We arrived by 9 am at the Steigenberger Frankfurter HOF.

I booked the hotel for four nights through my American Express Platinum card. It was $750 for 4 nights. I received a $300 credit from Amex. In addition, we received a $100 hotel expense credit, free breakfast which is usually $46 per person, and a room upgrade. It wasn’t a suite but it is very nice.

Also, early check-in which usually isn’t until noon. We fell asleep for a few hours and then went for a stroll through Frankfurt’s Old Town.

We visited St. Paul’s Church which was bombed during the war and rebuilt.

We stopped at Cafe Karin for a cappuccino and apple strudel.

We took a sightseeing river cruise on the Main, which was very relaxing.

It was a lovely trip and a great way to see Frankfurt from the water. Tickets for the 100-minute ride were 39 euros for both of us.

We stopped at My Frankfurt for dinner. I had sausage and Bruce had schnitzel. We each had two pieces so we shared.

Now to bed and hopefully we will take a train to Heidelberg tomorrow.

In 2015, I retired and set out to do as much traveling as I could. I started the blog on our first, month-long trip to Panama in October 2015. My sister Linda and her husband Stan joined Bruce and me on our first trip and we decided together on the name the four amigos. Since then, we don’t always travel with them, sometimes just Bruce and I, sometimes other people, whoever wants to join us on our crazy journeys. The name stuck and I grew an affinity for it. So here we are. I invite you to join the fouramigos blog on our next destination.
