Road Trip With Landon and Wyatt

After a family packed visit in the Northeast, Bruce and I hit the road with our grandsons, Landon and Wyatt. Landon is 12 and Wyatt is 7 so entertaining the two may be challenging. But here we go. Our first stop was Dunkin Donuts for a little sugar fuel.

As we drove down the Wilbur cross Parkway, the boys enjoyed a ride through the tunnel through the mountain. When I was a child coming to Connecticut from New York, this was always an exciting part of the trip. My dad always called it Lisa’s Tunnel.

I decided to make the journey in 4 or 5 hour drives each day. Perhaps with an interesting stop along the way. Since we were passing Sleepy Hollow, we decided to go looking for the headless horseman.

The boys wanted to visit the graveyard where Landon found Washington Irvings grave.

We drove over the Mario Cuomo Bridge, a fairly long suspension bridge.

After our visit to Sleepy Hollow, we stopped for lunch at McDonald’s.

We arrived at Allentown, PA Hyatt Place. It was a nice room upgrade with a kitchen.

Of course we had to go to the pool for a swim. Unfortunately there were three young boys in the pull who were quite wild so it wasn’t much fun for any of us.

For dinner , we ate at Anthony’s Pizza and then had dessert at Rita’s.

The boys are really good about going to bed. We watched Jeopardy, which Landon loves, then to sleep. We are heading to Harrisonburg, VA tomorrow.

We woke early and had breakfast at the hotel. The countryside was lovely with everything so green.

We reached Luray Caverns within four hours. I was hoping the boys would enjoy this.

We also spent some time in the antique car museum.

It was a short drive from the Caverns to our Hyatt Place hotel in Harrisonburg.

We needed a little rest when we arrived.

Then off to the pool. This time it was all ours.

For dinner we ate at the hotels rooftop restaurant. For dinner, it was pizza again for the boys and I had souvlaki and Bruce had tuna tartare. All was good.

Early to bed and early rise. We had breakfast at the hotel and then headed across the street to Krispy Kreme. The hot sign was on. The boys watched the donuts being fried and glazed.

Then in the car to eat them. They said “best donuts ever.”

We made a quick stop in Smithfield, NC to Panera for lunch with Lauren and Kadyn. More pizza for the boys. They are going to turn into a pizza. I had my favorite salad, strawberry poppyseed with blueberries and pecans! Delicious!

We had to stop at South of the Border for the boy’s first time. We told them once and done. Can’t believe that South of the Border has been open since 1949.

We finally arrived at the Hyatt in Florence. Some much needed time in the pool. I also was able to do a load of laundry at the hotel.

Last but not least, our to Freddy’s for some ice cream. Landon had a vanilla shake and Wyatt had a worms and dirt sundae.

Tomorrow we head to Disney!

In 2015, I retired and my goal was to do as much traveling as I possibly could. I started the blog for our first month long trip to Panama in October 2015. My sister Linda and her husband Stan joined Bruce and I on our first trip and we decided together on the name the four amigos. Since then, we don’t always travel with them, sometimes just Bruce and I, sometimes other people, whoever wants to join us on our crazy journeys. The name stuck and I grew an affinity to it. So here we are. I invite you to join thefouramigos blog on our next destination.
